Namaste America’s Art Initiative: “A Tribute to M. F. Husain"

Atul Nishar, President, of Namaste America- Indo American Association for Art & Culture, hosted an evening in celebration of Art and paid tribute to one of India's most celebrated and internationally renowned artists, the late Mr. M.F. Husain. The event showcased a unique selection of Mr. Husain's works. This event was organized in collaboration with Shree Naman Group, who has extended their assistance and support in making this a grand success.

Described by Forbes magazine as 'the Picasso of India', Maqbool Fida Husain alias M.F.Husain is one of India's most gifted artists, with an international career spanning over several decades.

The theme for the evening was “Art as an Investment” since it was M. F. Husain who had introduced this trend globally for Indian art. This event saw some eminent art connoisseurs and individuals associated with the celebrated artist as speakers. Karin Zitzewitz, Assistant Professor, Art History & Visual Culture, Department of Art, Art, History, and Design, Michigan State University, USA, Rashesh Shah, Chairman & CEO, Edelweiss Financial Services Ltd, Priyanka Mathew, Head of Sale, Modern & Contemporary Art, Indian & Southeast Asian Art, Sotheby's and Owais Husain himself graced the occasion and spoke on the theme.

This evening was attended by dignitaries across the city from Industrialists, Corporate CEO's, Celebrities, US Consulate Staff to numerous other Socialites and Media Personalities.

About M. F. Husain
Described by Forbes magazine as 'the Picasso of India', Maqbool Fida Husain alias M.F.Husain is one of India's most gifted artists, an accomplished painter mostly famous for his paintings on Indian women and horses. With a career spanning several decades, this multi-faceted artist made significant contributions in other fields also- as a director, photographer and member of the Indian Parliament etc.

Husain was noticed for the first time in 1947 when he won an award at the annual exhibition of the Bombay Art Society. Subsequently, he was invited by Souza to join Bombay Progressive Artists Group, Along with several solo exhibitions he had major retrospectives in Mumbai in 1969, in Calcutta in 1973 and in Delhi in 1978. He participated in many international shows which include Contemporary Indian Art, Royal Academy of Arts, London1982; Six Indian Painters, Tate Gallery, London 1985; Modern Indian Painting, Hirschhom Museum, Washington 1986 and Contemporary Indian Art, Grey Art Gallery, New York 1986. Husain made a film „Through the Eyes of a Painter in 1967 which went on to win the Golden Bear Award in Berlin Film Festival. He was the first Indian to win this award.
